Phrase Origin

Elvis has left the building

This iconic phrase was first spoken by promoter Horace Lee Logan at a 1956 Elvis Presley concert in Shreveport, Louisiana. He used it to encourage the audience to stay for the remaining acts after Elvis had performed. It later became the standard announcement at Presley's concerts and eventually a cultural catchphrase meaning something is definitively over.
