Charley horse

This American term for a painful leg cramp has an uncertain but colorful origin. One popular explanation traces it to a lame horse named Charley that pulled the roller at the Chicago White Sox ballpark in the 1880s. Players who limped off the field with leg cramps were said to look like old Charley hobbling around the diamond.
