Feeling under the weather

A variation of "under the weather," this nautical phrase specifically refers to passengers who felt seasick during rough seas. They would go below deck to the most stable area of the ship, literally getting beneath the weather. Ship logs would record sick passengers as "under the weather" — a shorthand that stuck.
